A flitch plate is a steel plate bolted to wood joists or beams to add strength . Depending on its purpose it may be added to a single beam or sandwiched between two or more layers of timber. The steel and wood are bolted together to add strength. The typical flitch plate has 9/16” diameter holes drilled for ½” bolts. The hole pattern is normally done with staggered holes spaced 16” on center with 2 holes at each end.
The most common sizes of flitch plates are 9” and 11” high in either ½”, ¾” or 1” thick and we always stock the material for these sizes. We also provide ½” diameter bolts, washers and nuts with each flitch plate. There are many other thicknesses and sizes available ranging from ¼” thru 1” thick and from 7” to 16” high.
At Dejong Iron we can also customize the hole pattern to whatever you need. Our large inventory of steel allows us to fill your order usually within a few days. Please call or email with your requirements and we will be happy to quote you.
